Lufthansa Cabin Crew Strike Cancels Over 900 Flights Across Germany

A one‑day strike by Lufthansa’s cabin crew forced the cancellation of more than 900 flights on Friday, disrupting travel plans for over 90,000 passengers at Germany’s two busiest hubs.

The walkout, organized by the Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO), began shortly after midnight and continued until 10 pm local time. Frankfurt Airport, Lufthansa’s primary international gateway saw roughly 580 flights scrapped out of about 1,350 scheduled operations. Munich Airport, the airline’s second major hub, experienced around 400 cancellations.

Cabin crew from Lufthansa’s regional subsidiary CityLine also joined the strike, affecting operations at nine airports nationwide. UFO chair Joachim Vazquez Buerger criticized the airline for failing to present a negotiable offer, saying the disruption “would have been avoidable.” He noted that the union had deliberately avoided striking during the peak Easter travel period but warned that Friday’s action would still impact passengers returning from the holidays.

Lufthansa urged travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport and said affected passengers were being notified automatically. The airline activated a contingency plan that included deploying larger aircraft and adding flights through its subsidiaries to reduce the impact.

Friday’s strike is the latest in a series of labor disputes at the carrier this year. In February, UFO joined pilots from the Vereinigung Cockpit union for a joint one‑day strike that similarly disrupted operations. The union voted overwhelmingly in late March to authorize further strikes after wage negotiations stalled.
