19-Year-Old Zara Is Attempting To Break Record Flying Solo Around The World

Born to parents who too are pilots, 19-year-old Zara Rutherford took her first flight at just three months old and earned her pilot's license when she was 15.

The British teenager is attempting to break the world record to become the youngest woman to fly around the world solo.

The current women's record holder flew the solo flight at age 30 while the men's record holder flew at age 18.

Zara Rutherford has said the 12-year age gap between men and women for the same record is huge and she’s trying to bring it closer.

The record attempt would take her through 52 countries on five continents over the next three months.

Part of Rutherford's mission is to encourage young women and girls to follow their passions and serve as a role model.
