A passenger has been caught attempting to smuggle handgun through security inside a raw chicken at Fort Lauderdale Airport, Florida, USA.
The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents discovered the firearm wrapped in plastic which was stuffed inside a frozen chicken. The passengers details have not been published.
In 2022 alone US TSA has apprehended 700 firearms at checkpoints just in Florida. Carriage of firearms are permitted in checked baggage in the US in compliance with local legislation.
Passengers are required to declare every firearm in their checked baggage when presented for transport at the airport. Failure to abide by the rules can result in heavy fines including jail sentence.
